About Patrice Martin

Patrice Martin Hi! I am Patrice, a professional artist from Eastern PA. I have received my BA degree in Fine Art, Graphic Design and Art teaching Certification. My artwork has been exhibited in juried art shows and galleries over 20 years. I have received multiple purchase prize and achievement awards for my art. Both my watercolor and my fine art photography have been published in National magazines along with articles. I won first place in a National contest for my nature photography. Whether it is my soft watercolor paintings of bunnies or my fine art photography of the reflective flowing surface of water my sense of awe and wonder for the natural environment lovingly shines through.

I have always held an affinity for water. As a child, I would explore the small streams near my home, stepping quietly along the water’s edge hoping to discover a frog, turtle, or fish. Oftentimes, while camping, I would hear the frogs croaking. I would gingerly try to approach unnoticed, only to hear them splash as they hit the water, catching only a glimpse of their legs as they reentered the safety of their water home.

Upon meeting my future husband, an adventurist and nature lover, I was introduced to kayaking which literally brought me into the water. After receiving my own kayak as a gift, I was able to physically get out onto the bodies of water, which previously I could only observe from the edge. I was thrilled to effortlessly glide across the water’s surface, like a water strider suspended by surface tension.
Virtually silent in my craft, I become part of the environment. No longer an inhabitant of the land, I am one of them - the water inhabitants. I paddle along the water’s edge glimpsing through the clear shallows, again hoping for a chance encounter with one of my amphibian friends, captivated with fluttering, playful dragonflies that closely observe me, a floating curiosity in their world.
When I am truly able to be a part of this elemental world, I become child-like. Discovering the play of light atop the water’s silky surface fascinates me as I capture the once in a lifetime instances that the water’s surface reveals to me. The ever-changing reflections of light and sky upon the water’s surface, occasionally analogous to liquid mercury, or chrome, endlessly seduce me. My reverence for life and for this planet is renewed with each instance I spend in the water’s presence. By photographing nature I hope to inspire conscious awakening of its precious grandeur.

"To reflect the compassion, respect and admiration I feel for the natural environment is what inspires my creative spirit." patrice
